Commercial General Liability
The backbone of any business plan is proper coverage for an organization’s tangible assets as well as protection against bodily injury or property damage. Whether it is a lawsuit from a slip and fall of a customer or a fire at one of your locations – Commercial General Liability (“CGL”) protects and covers legal fees, settlements, and makes sure your business can survive following a loss.
CGL coverage protects businesses of all types, from “mom and pop” shops to the most complex commercial enterprises, against the financial consequences of their legal liability for bodily injury to anyone and damage to anyone’s property arising from their business activities or operations.
Operating a business without Commercial General Liability coverage could have a devastating impact on your business and your personal assets in the event you are sued by a third party because they have been hurt or because there has been damage to any of their property.
What is a Bodily Injury (“BI”) or Property Damage (“PD”) claim?
BI claims can arise from something as simple as a slip and fall on your premises. As a business owner you are liable for any injuries suffered by anyone visiting your place of business, whether they have slipped on your property from an icy sidewalk or uneven flooring or have been injured by one of your employees.
PD can arise from poor workmanship on the part of your employees or processes; for example, the failure of a plumber to seal a pipe causing water damage to a customer’s location or a defective switch or incorrectly installed wiring causing a fire to a customer’s location.
All businesses need CGL coverage to protect them against lawsuits brought by customers, suppliers and the general public. When the public enter your premises there is always the risk of injury to them while your employee could cause damage at a customer’s location – in either case, you would be liable for the damage.
As well as standard CGL coverage for all types of organizations and businesses, we can offer a number of policy extensions that can be added to a basic policy that is geared to your specific business to accommodate your needs.
